Having just finished Plan B by Pete Wilson I find myself holding tighter to the Scripture found in James chapter 1,
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
In this book Pete Wilson digs deeper into our thoughts about what we do when God does not show up the way we thought He would. When your marriage seems to be falling apart, when the child you prayed for is lost, when the job that provided for all of your needs is terminated – how do you respond when your plan A fails?
Having had a change in my personal plans several times in my life I know all too well the results of plan B for my life – usually much better than my plan A… But even through the pain, grief, depression that can come thru our personal plans falling apart Pete Wilson does a great job in explaining how God shows up. There are times when we don’t have all the answers and again Pete shares with the reader of the freedom that comes in not having all of the answers. He speaks of faith and trust and how we need to allow God to show up and bring about the rest, peace and comfort that we need to experience in our times of crisis.
In the chapter, “Me Too”, the author addresses the aspect of having others around us that have been where we find ourselves. There is comfort that can be found in community. To have another who would stand with you and speak from personal experience is something of great value. To pour out your heart to someone, to share your grief, to cry out in pain to someone who can honestly say, “I’ve been there. I know what you mean.” can be a source of great comfort.
If you have previously found yourself in a crisis you will find many points in this book that ring true. If you have not yet walked thru a crisis, and I don’t mean to rain on your parade, rest assured that your time is coming. Get this book. Read it. Keep it on your shelf for future reflections. Plan B is an honest, heart to heart, hope-filled book.
Authors note: I did receive a free copy of this book to read and review from BookSneeze. While I am not being paid to review Plan B, I was given the book with the intents and purposes of writing a review of the book. The fact that I did receive the book free of charge in no way influenced me to write a more forgiving review.
